About winter in Canberra: part one...

The problem with my winter look is that when I detect the slightest drop in temperature, I will layer on clothes like there is no tomorrow. And I'm not talking about the good and smart layering that fashion magazines talk about: I'm talking sweaters on top of sweaters, pants (yes, true story) in pants and a big coat to top that off. Sure, when I venture into the cold I am warm, but is looking like an overgrown marshmallow a fair price to pay for warmth?

Since moving to the much much colder Capitol from sunny River city, this "over dressing" issue has come up more time than I'd like it to. This is when I realised: there is only so much weather whining and complaining one can do. It's time I hardened up and faced winter like a woman--a stylish and well dressed woman if I can manage it.

So to take a leaf out of girls of the Capitol's book, this winter I'm going to experiment with stockings/tights. I'm not talking conservative and opaque ones though. Oh no. That would be too easy. I'm talking bright-bold-gossip-girl-style colours and patterns à la Blair Waldorf.

I hope I survive this winter.

  1. Oh how I love this post!

I live if cold Ballarat. We're famous for our cold. It drives me crazy when people note that I am regularly cold when other people are fine (mind you this is normally noted by menopausal women or 'never feel the cold' men). I am cold in our winter even though I was born and raised here. Brrrrrrrrr!

And yes! yes! yes! This layering thing is such and issue. I am currently looking for thick stockings like the ones they make primary school kids wear. Thick and gorgeous. Please let me know how you go in your search!!!

  2. Thank you! I'm so glad you liked my post! :)

I understand exactly how you feel--I am braving temperatures as low as -5 degrees here in Canberra at the moment. Most Canberrans don't seem to feel the cold either and some of them actually LIKE the cold! Clearly they don't have my layering issue.

I'll definitely let you know how my search goes! I'm hoping to write another post about it.

Hope cold Ballarat isn't too cold yet!
