About shopping competitiveness...

I am quite sure I am not the only one who experiences this phenomenon while shopping: shopping competitiveness. When I am shopping and genuinely trying on clothes/jewellery/shoes/[insert accessories name] with the intention of buying, I will suddenly become acutely aware of the other shoppers in the store. When this happens, thoughts like this run through my head:
  • They're going find something better before me. I don't know how they do it--I mean for goodness sake, we're in the same store! Maybe they've actually got eyes behind their heads...
  • OMG. They're HOLDING the piece I want. Maybe I should distract them. Or tackle them.
  • What I want looks better on them. This is much worse if they're my shopping companion. Why are they so beautiful? Life is just not fair like that.
In the face of such a dire situation of shopping competitiveness, I figure I have two options.

1) I can get over it. I mean, it's just clothes/jewellery/shoes/[insert accessories name] right? It's hardly life or death. Keep calm and carry on.

2) I can fuss and obsess over it and have thoughts like this: OMG. IT IS LIFE OR DEATH. HOW WILL I LIVE WITHOUT SAID CLOTHES/JEWELLERY/SHOES/[INSERT ACCESSORIES NAME]. GET OUT OF MY WAY AND GET YOUR HANDS OFF THE STUFF I WANT!

Although I aspire to the first option, somehow I always lapse back in the second. It's not my fault, I'm just competitive by nature. Even with shopping. I hope I'm not alone in this.
